About

Progressive Schenectady was created in the aftermath of the 2016 Presidential election and our concern about the future of our community and our country. Three Niskayuna women created this group as a means of support and activism against the hateful rhetoric and divisiveness in the post-election era.  Having deep and legitimate concern for immigrant rights, women’s reproductive rights, civil liberties, and more, Progressive Schenectady has held educational, fundraising, and social events all with the goal of “activism made easy”. None of the organization’s founders were activists, so we wanted to create an organization that allowed people with no experience to get involved in a welcoming, unintimidating environment.
